Paul McCartney was born in Liverpool, England to Mary, a maternity nurse, and James, a cotton salesman who was also a jazz pianist in a band. He was the oldest of two sons. When Paul was just 14 his mother died, and this later became a connection between he and John Lennon who also lost his mother as a teen. He did well in school and was admitted to Liverpool Institute, and while on the bus to school he met George Harrison. Paul had a love of music from a young age and enjoyed learning by ear, although his father wanted him to take lessons. He later met John Lennon at a festival when they were both playing.

Lennon had a band by the name of The Quarrymen and invited Paul to join him. He did, and although they changed their name and band members several times, by 1960 they were going by The Beatles. They invited Harrison to join them along with Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe. They began playing in Germany at nightclubs, but eventually Stuart left. When Best was the next to leave, Ringo Starr joined and the The Beatles as we know them were born.

The Beatles went on to be the most popular musical group of all time. They hold numerous records, such as most albums ever sold, most Number One singles on the Hot 100 chart (20 of them), seven Grammy Awards, an Academy Award (Best Original Song Score), and from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors, 15 Ivor Novello Awards. They have sold over one billion units, making them the best selling band in history.

After The Beatles disbanded, Paul continued his with his love of music and released some solo albums, then followed up with the band Wings. Wings were together for eleven years when they broke up. Paul has since worked with many artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Eric Stewart. From his incredible popularity with The Beatles, Wings, and as a solo artist, we estimate Paul McCartney to have a net worth of $800,000,000 (GBP 496,000,000).

So how much is $800 million dollars really?

With $800 million dollars we can only assume there isn’t much Paul couldn’t buy. To put it into perspective, since he loves music so much he could buy 2,000,000 iPod Touch 64GB and listen to music anytime and anywhere he wanted. He could donate one to each resident of the Fiji islands and still have money left over to buy them each a song from iTunes, and still have money left over.
