Born in McComb, Mississippi and raised in Kentwood, Louisiana, Britney Spears began performing as a child in various stage and television productions. She signed on with Jive Records in 1997 which led to her debut album, …Baby One More Time, which debuted at number on the Billboard 200 and was certified two-times platinum within one month of release. It topped the charts in many countries and became the best-selling album by a teen artist. Spears is credited with reviving teen pop in the late 1990s.

Her second studio album, Oops! I Did it Again (2000), also debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, as did her funkier third album, Britney (2001), and her fourth album, In the Zone (2003), making her the first female artist of the SoundScan era to have her first four albums all debut at number one. Although her fifth album, Blackout (2007) debuted at number 2, her sixth album, Circus (2008) debuted at number one, landing her in the Guiness Book for World Records for having five ablums debut at number one. Her seventh album, Femme Fatale (2011) too debuted at number one, a milestone which placed her in a three-way tie for third place in most number one albums for women alongside Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey. She has been compared over the years with both Madonna and Janet Jackson. Spears herself has said they are her biggest influences.

Side ventures for Spears have included restaurants, clothing lines, major endorsements such as Pepsi, books co-written with her mother, a frangrance, reality tv shows, and an iPhone app. Add in her extremely successful and numerous world concert tours, and we place Britney’s net worth at $200 million.

So how much is 200 million dollars really?

In 2006, photos were taken of Britney driving a car with her infant son in her lap instead of a car seat. A strange choice given that with her $200 million could buy 54,000 of the most expensive car seats on the market.

She could also afford 5,200,000 fake Rolex watches – or 25,000 real ones. Or she could spend her money on 1,6 billion party hats. Or just 1 1/2 Scream paintings by Munch. The value of the one she cut in half would probably be greatly reduces, though.
