Jennifer Lopez, also widely known as J.Lo, is credited with being the most successful Latina entertainer. She was born and raised in The Bronx where she took singing and dancing lessons as a child. Her first big break was dancing in the in-house dance troupe, the Fly Girls, on the television show In Living Color. She gained recognition as an actress with her role in Money-Train, and action-thriller released in 1995. Her leading roles in Selena (1997) and Out of Sight (1998) earned her ALMA Awards for Outstanding Actress. Additional films include The Cell (2000), The Wedding Planner (2001), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Shall We Dance? (2004), Monster-in-Law (2005) and The Back-up Plan (2010).
In 1999 she launched her recording career with the release of her album On the 6, from which If You Had My Love and Waiting for Tonight became hit singles. Her second album, J.Lo, hit number one on the Billboard 200 during the same week that her film The Wedding Plan was at the top of the box office. Her remix album, J to tha L–O! The Remixes, was released in 2002 and became the first remix album to hit number one in the USA. Both her third and fourth studio albums, This Is Me… Then (2002) and Rebirth (2005) made it to number 2. In 2007 she released an all-Spanish album, Como ama una Mujer. In 2011 she released her sevent album, Love? with the hit single On the Floor, which became one of the best-selling singles ever.
Side ventures for J.Lo have included being a judge on American Idol, fashion and perfume lines, and plenty of product endorsements, not to mention a series of high-profile relationships with men like Ben Affleck, who she almost married. She is divorcing from her third husband, Marc Anthony. Her philanthropic ventures include human rights, vaccinations and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles.
We place J.Lo’s net worth at $250 million.
So how much is 250 million dollars really?
The Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles has an annual operating budget of $6.2 million, so J.Lo could keep them in the black for more than 40 years. At $75 per does, J.Lo could also pay for more than 3 million people to receive Hepatitis A vaccinations.
If she prefer to spend the money on more tangible investments, though, she could buy 5,000 kilos of gold or 270,000 kilos of silver. That is about the same as 210 Toyota Prius cars.
