Tommy Lee Jones was born in San Saba, Texas on September 15, 1946. He is the son of Clyde C. Jones, an oil field employee, and Lucille Marie, a school teacher, police officer and entrepreneur.
Raised in Midland, Texas, Tommy attended Robert E. Lee High School. When his family relocated to Dallas, he graduated from the St. Mark’s School of Texas on a scholarship. He would later attend Harvard College on a need-based scholarship. Tommy would graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in English. He would also be an avid football player when he was on the 1968 undefeated varsity football team.
Tommy has been married three times. His first wife was Kate Lardner, which lated from 1971 to 1978. His second wife was Kimberlea Cloughley, which went from 1981 to 1996. Tommy would marry his third wife, Dawn Laurel, in 2001. He has two children: Victoria Kafka and Austin Leonard. He presently resides in a suburb of San Antonio.
Once he finished with his studies, Tommy would move to New York in order to become an actor. He would make his Broadway debut in 1969 in a support role in the play “A Patriot for Me.” A year later, he earned his very first role in motion pictures in “Love Story.” He would return to the stage in 1971 by acting in “Four on a Garden.” In that same year, he landed a part on the ABC soap opera “One Life to Live,” in which he played Dr. Mark Toland until 1975.
Tommy would garner his very first Golden Globe nomination in the film 1980 “Coal Miner’s Daughter.” In 1981, he would co-star with Sally Field in the comedy “Back Roads.” It wasn’t until the 1990s that Tommy would achieve his biggest box office success with films like “The Fugitive,” “Batman Forever” and “Men in Black.” He would win an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for “The Fugitive.” Since then, Tommy has been an in-demand actor. He has even directed two critically-acclaimed feature films: “Three Burials” and “The Homesman.” Tommy’s latest acting endeavor was “Jason Bourne.”
Outside of Hollywood, Tommy is a spokesperson for Japanese brewing company Suntory, an avid San Antonio Spurs fan and a cattle rancher in Texas. He speaks fluent Spanish, supports the Polo Training Foundation and is a serious polo player.
