Tim Allen was born in Denver, Colorado on June 13, 1953. He is the son of Gerald Dick, a real estate agent, and Martha Katherine, a community service worker. He has nine brothers and sisters. His mother would later remarry to a business executive and relocate to a suburb of Detroit, Michigan after Tim’s father died in a car accident.
Raised mostly in Birmingham, Michigan, Tim attended Seaholm High School, where he took theater and music classics and studied the piano. He would go on to attend Central Michigan University and later Western Michigan University. Tim would earn a Bachelor of Science degree in communications with a major in radio and television production and a minor in philosophy and design.
In 1984, Tim married Laura Deibel, but they separated in 1999 and divorced in 2003. They had one child together: Katherine. In 2006, Tim married Jane Hajduk and the couple has one child: Elizabeth. His family presently resides in Hollywood, California.
Tim’s career in comedy began in 1975. When he was dared to participate in a comedy night at Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle, he started to get recognition from local media. He began to appear in local television commercials and cable comedy shows. This prompted him to move to Los Angeles and perform at The Comedy Store. He then performed stand up comedy on late-night talk shows and specials on film and record.
Tim never considered himself an actor, but ABC took a chance on Tim for the hit television series “Home Improvement,” which saw Tim play the legendary character Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor. The immense success of the show also helped Tim garner the parts for two box office smash hits: “The Santa Clause” and “Toy Story.” Since 2011, Tim has starred on another popular television sitcom called “Last Man Standing,” which has garnered huge ratings and critical acclaim.
In the 1990s, Tim published two books: “”Don’t Stand Too Close to a Naked Man” and “I’m Not Really Here.”
Tim has nominated and won numerous awards, including an Emmy, People’s Choice Award and Golden Globe.
Despite his success, Tim has gotten into trouble with the law. In the 1970s, Tim was arrested at the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport for possession of more than 650 grams of cocaine. His sentence was reduced to three years because he revealed the names of the drug dealers. Also, in 1997, Tim was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) in Birmingham and was sentenced to one-year probation.
Tim is a well-known Republican and was a supporter of John Kasich in the 2016 Republican primaries.
We estimate that Tim Allen’s net worth is $80 million (2016).
So how much is $80 million really?
$80 million can pay for hundreds of thousands of copies for all of the seasons of “Home Improvement.” $80 million can also pay for the entire production of another “Toy Story” film.
