Tom Colicchio was born on August 15, 1962 in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He is the son of Beverly Corvelli and Thomas Colicchio. He comes from Italian descent.
Since 2001, Tom has been married to filmmaker Lori Silverbush. They have three children together: Dante, Mateo Lev and Luka Bodhi. They presently reside in New York City.
Tom rose to prominence in the culinary world in the summer of 1994 when he and Danny Meyer launched the Gramercy Tavern in Manhattan. It was an instant success and was voted the Most Popular Restaurant in New York City. In 2006, he sold his stake in the restaurant and moved on. From 2001 to today, Tom has opened up 13 more restaurants in New York City, Dallas, Miami, Las Vegas and other cities. Through all of his hard work and dedication to food, he would become the recipient of the 2010 Outstanding Chef award from the James Beard Foundation.
His success in the restaurant industry led him to join the hit television series “Top Chef” in 2006 as a head judge. He would later serve as the main consulting producer of “Top Chef Masters,” a spin-off series of the aforementioned show. He would win the 2010 Emmy Award for Outstanding Reality-Competition Programming. Tony would then host the reality series “Best New Restaurant.” He has made appearances in such shows “Treme,” “Ripert” and “The Simpsons.” Tony also appeared in the documentary feature film “A Place at the Table” with Raj Patel and Jeff Bridges.
Over the years, Tony has written and published three cookbooks: “Think Like a Chef,” “Craft of Cooking” and “Wichcraft: Craft a Sandwich into a Meal – and a Meal into a Sandwich.”
Tom became a national hero when he provided food to the rescue workers during the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City.
