Lamar attended Christ the King Regional High School and was an active basketball player. Due to poor grades, he left the school in his final year and transferred to Redemption Christian Academy and then St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Connecticut. Here is where he would find success in basketball.
In 2000, Lamar was engaged to Liza Morales, but the engagement was ended in 2007. He would then start a relationship with reality television star Khloe Kardashian. The marriage ended in 2016. Over the years, he has been involved with the likes of Polina Polonosky, Ryder Cherry, Taraji Henderson and Jennifer Richardson. He has three children: Jayden, Destiny and Lamar.
Lamar attempted to attend the University of Rhode Island and the University of Nevada in order to play basketball, but he would have a hard time because of his poor grades. Eventually, after a lot of hard work, Lamar was accepted by the University of Rhode Island and played for the Rams in the Atlantic 10 Conference.
In 1999, Lamar threw his name in the 1999 NBA draft and was selected fourth overall by the Los Angeles Clippers. He had an impressive first season: averaging 16.6 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.2 assists. He was added to the 2000 NBA All-Rookie First Team. After a stellar first season, he continued his success by averaging 17.2 points per game in 74 games. Unfortunately, in the third season, he would suffer from suspensions for apparent drug use; in two seasons he only played 78 games.
During the 2003-2004 season, Lamar played with the Miami Heat. He would later be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, where he would rejuvenate his career, despite a series of setbacks, like injuries and being placed as the team’s sixth man – he would win the NBA Sixth Man of the Year Award. For one season, he would player with the Dallas Mavericks and then the Los Angeles Clippers. Lamar played overseas in Spain for just two months. He was signed by the New York Knicks but only played for a month.
Outside of basketball, Lamar launched his own music and film production company called Rich Soil Entertainment. Unfortunately, Lamar was hospitalized in late 2015 after being found unconscious in the Love Ranch in Nevada. He was placed on life support following several strokes and kidney failure. He has since recovered and is trying to put his life back together.
One of his latest projects is a new reality television series, which surrounds the life of the former basketball player and his path to recovery.
