Jason Momoa was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 1, 1979. Raised in Norwalk, Iowa, he is the son of Joseph Momoa, a painter, and Coni Momoa, a photographer.
He studied marine biology at an Iowan college, but moved to Florida Keys to continue his studies. Jason would move to Colorado and study wildlife biology at the Colorado State University. He then moved back to Hawaii so he could be with his father. Years later, Jason traveled to Paris to study pastel painting and Tibet to learn Buddhist teachings.
Jason started a relationship with actress Lisa Bonet in 2005. They became married in November 2015 and have two children: Lola Iolani Momoa and Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Due to his marriage, he became the stepfather to Zoe Kravitz.
Jason started his career in modeling in 1998, when he was discovered by famous international designer Takeo Kobayashi. He became Hawaii’s Model of the Year in 1999 and hosted the Miss Teen Hawaii contest. At 19, while he was working in a surf shop, he was cast in “Baywatch Hawaii” from 1999 to 2001.
For several years, he would land parts in an array of film and television projects, including “North Shore, “Stargate: Atlantis,” “The Game,” “Conan the Barbarian” and “Game of Thrones.” In 2014, he went behind the camera to star, direct and co-write the motion picture “Road to Paloma.” His biggest break to date was appearing in the blockbuster superhero movie “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” as Aquaman. He is expected to reprise this role in a standalone film and in the upcoming “Justice League” films.
Jason’s next big project is the Netflix drama called “Frontier,” which has received rave reviews.
