Alex Rodriguez was born in New York City, New York on July 27, 1975. He is the son of Victor and Lourdes Rodriguez. He has three siblings: Joseph, Suzy and Victor.

Growing up in Miami, Florida, Alex attended the Christopher Columbus High School and then the Westminster Christian School. He was on the verge of attending the University of Miami to play football, but instead he entered the first round of the 1993 Major League Baseball (MLB) amateur draft.

Alex has been involved with numerous women over the years. He first married actress Cynthia Scurtis in 2002, and had two children together: Natasha Alexander and Ella Alexander. The couple eventually divorced over allegations that he had extra-marital affairs. He then entered into various other relationships, including with Cameron Diaz, Madonna, Kate Hudson, Torrie Wilson, Demi Moore and Anne Wojcicki.

Alex first signed with the Seattle Mariners in 1993 and was given a three-year contract worth $1.3 million plus a $1 million signing bonus. He would make his debut in 1994 in the minor leagues. He would eventually make his big league debut in 1996 and took over as the team’s regular shortstop. His first year turned out to be an incredible success as he led the American League with a .358 batting average and hit 36 home runs with 123 RBIs.

After the 2000 season, Alex became a free agent and signed with the Texas Rangers to a 10-year, $252 million deal. His three-season stint with the Rangers was an incredible success and he  established numerous records and won various awards. Due to his expensive contract, he was traded to the New York Yankees in 2004 and had an impeccable first few seasons with the historic ball club. He would even win the AL MVP Award.

Alex would spur controversy as he opted out of his contract in 2007 and was subsequently given a 10-year, $275 million contract from the Yankees, plus multiple million-dollar incentives for production. After he signed on the dotted line, his career went downhill, except during the 2009 postseason. He tested positive for steroids, was vehemently criticized by the press and his teammates and was regularly injured. In addition to this, his production numbers started to decline.

Alex would retire from the game of baseball in August 2016. He confirmed that he would not return to the MLB in 2017. It was reported that he would serve as a special advisor to the organization. He also performs pre-game and post-game commentary for the MLB post-season. Reportedly, Alex will host an upcoming television show on CNBC that helps retired athletes in financial need.

Alex is quite the philanthropist as he has donated $3.9 million to the University of Miami and helps impoverished communities all over the U.S.

Outside of baseball, he owns a Mercedes-Benz dealership in League City, Texas. He also is an avid art collector and is an investor for eSports team NRG eSports.
