Name: John Marwood Cleese
Born: 27 October 1939
Occupation: Comedian, Actor, Writer, Producer and all-round genius
John Cleese was born to Muriel, a homemaker and Reginald, an insurance salesman. He was born in Weston-Super-Mare and was their only child. He did very well in school both academically and athletically. He went on to study law at Cambridge but spent most of his time with the Footlights group, performing in comedies. One of the shows became quite successful and ended up touring in New Zealand and then the U.S. where he stayed for a short time. Upon his return to England, he began working in radio and television and collaborated with some of England’s best comedy writers of the time. He would later join many of these writers in performing their own work. In 1969 Monty Python’s Flying Circus debuted on television to great success. Cleese was on the show for three seasons.
After leaving Monty Python’s Flying Circus Cleese teamed up with some of the same people to work on the Monty Python films. Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl, and The Meaning of Life would all follow with great success. Cleese also returned to television during this time for the show Fawlty Towers.
He has since starred in mainstream movies such as A Fish Called Wanda, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the U.S.), Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (with Daniel Radcliffe), Die Another Day (with Rosamund Pike), The Day the Earth Stood Still (with Jaden Smith), and The Pink Panther 2. Cleese has also done a lot of voice work in cartoons and on video games. We estimate John Cleese to be worth $10,000,000 (GBP 6,329,284). It would have been higher, but a love as much for divorces as for women has had a profound effect on his savings. John Cleese moved to Monaco in late 2011 for tax reasons, but has since moved back to London.
So how much is $10 million dollars really?
It’s no secret that comedy is what Cleese’s success is based on. With $10 million in the bank he could easily purchase 3,636,363 pairs of Groucho Fuzzy Nose and Glasses for a few laughs. For a more classic joke, he could buy 5,050,505 hand buzzers. But since Cleese has been married four times, maybe he needs to become a little more suave with the ladies in his life. For only $22 he could buy 454,545 dozen bacon scented bouquets of roses. And really, what lady could leave such a thoughtful man?
