Tiger Woods was first recognized by the public at the tender age of 8. Good Morning America and other TV shows had invited the young boy to show off his golf skills on their programs. He was labeled a child prodigy of the sport. He became a professional golfer in 1996, after graduating from Stanford University and winning numerous amateur golfing titles.

In 1997, Woods skyrocketed to fame when he won the US Masters Tournament held in Augusta, Georgia. He was merely 21 years old and this made him the youngest golfer to win this prestige award. Woods was also the first African American to win the Masters Tournament. Woods tied the British Open course record later in the same year.

In the next few years, Woods amassed many other titles. He won 3 US Masters, 3 Open Championships, 3 U.S. Opens and 4 U.S. PGAs. Woods had 5 incredible wins in 2003 alone, including the Buick Invitational and the Western Open. In 2004, he only won one PGA Championship. 2005 proved to be a successful years for Woods as he was voted to be the PGA Tour Player of the Year and won 6 championship titles.

The next season brought Woods more success by winning the World Golf Championship as well as the U.S. PGA Championships. In 2007, he also won the BMW Championship, Tour Championship and was again named Player of the Year. For the eighth time, he was given the Arnold Palmer Award for earning the most money on the tour.

In 2008, Woods won the U.S. Open even though he had surgery on his left knee just 2 months earlier. He needed additional surgery but tried making a comeback in 2009. Although his comeback didn’t go as well as he had hoped, Woods continued to be number 1 in the Official World Golf rankings. After a sex scandal, Woods again tried to make a comeback but it was worse than the last. His earnings from tournaments as well as endorsements are estimated to have given him a net worth of 500 million dollars.

So, how much is 500 million dollars?

With Woods fortune he could buy 20,008,003 handles of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum. This equates to 1,667,333 cases of the liquor which is more bottles than a large beverage store will sell in 5 years. With this amount of alcohol, he could offer his friends 1,100,440,165 shots.  But that’s just numbers.  Literary.  It might be easier to understand if we explain that if you lined up each shot, one after the other, they would reach for 31 000 miles (50 000 km).  Which is also just numbers, but very impressing numbers since the line of shots would reach from New York, all the way around the world and back to New York again, before turning south and continue all the way to the South Pole.  If you were to drink ten shots a day, it would take 300 000 years to finish – longer than modern man has been around.

Woods could purchase 1,115 homes on a golf course in Naples or Florida. Otherwise he could simply buy 103,519,668 professional golf balls with his money.

When Tiger divorced Elin Nordegren in 2010 she is thought to have received a settlement of $ 100 million.  So in any case his fortune should last him for another five marriages.

  2. I feel sorry for Tiger Woods. This guy has not won a major since 2008. I don’t know much about golf but I hope he breaks Jack Nicklaus record of 18 majors.
