Name: Christopher Michael “Chris” Pratt
Born: June 21, 1979
With rumors abounding that he might be the next Indiana Jones, Christopher Michael “Chris” Pratt seems to be Hollywood’s golden boy after his smashing success as Star-Lord in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. But don’t think for a minute that Pratt is an overnight sensation. He’s been paying his dues in Hollywood for years, looking for the right role.
Pratt is the youngest of three children born to Kathleen and Daniel Pratt in Virginia, Minnesota, but grew up in Washington state. He still calls Washington home, married Washington native Anna Faris, and is a huge Seattle Seahawks fan. Leading up to Superbowl XLIX, Pratt challenged fellow Marvel star Chris Evans to a bet over the game. Pratt’s wager: If the Seahawks repeated as national champions. Evans would have to visit the Seattle Children’s Hospital in full Capitan America regalia.
Before his breakout role as Peter Quinn aka “Star-Lord” in Guardians of the Galaxy, Pratt had played supporting roles in several Oscar nominated movies including Wanted, Her and Zero Dark Thirty. Pratt began his acting career after meeting Rae Dawn Chong while working at a restaurant in Hawaii. His early career was concentrated primarily in television with long-term roles in Everwood and The O.C. He currently has an on-going role on the show Parks and Recreation.
And, Guardians wasn’t the only big movie for Pratt in 2014. Pratt was also the voice of “Emmett” in another blockbuster of the year, The Lego Movie. Fans of Pratt’s singing from Guardians will find the actor appears on four different soundtracks. In preparation for the role of Star-Lord, Pratt lost 60 pounds, giving up some of his favorite foods, including pancakes, to make the transformation.
Pratt married Faris in 2009 and they have one son, Jack. Pratt’s charity work has focused primarily on children’s charities with the actor vowing while filming Guardians that he would visit sick children as Star-Lord if the movie did well enough that children wanted to see him. He fulfilled that vow in July, 2014.
Pratt has an estimated net worth of $20 million.
How much is $20 million?
Last minute tickets to see the Seahawks in the Super Bowl can be more than $25,000 a ticket, but with $20 million, Pratt could head to the game with 799 of his closest friends.
