Name: Bradley Cooper
Born: January 5, 1975
Occupation: Actor, Producer
In the early days of his career, Bradley Cooper was typecast as a pretty boy and being named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2011 certainly did very little to dissuade casting directors of that idea, but with four Oscar nominations under his belt Cooper is proving he’s more than just a pretty face.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in nearby Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, Cooper is the son of a stockbrocker with Irish heritage. His mother, who has an Italian heritage, worked at the local NBC affiliate. Cooper starter his college career at Villanova University near his hometown, but after one year transferred to the honors English program at Georgetown University. From there, he moved to New York City to pursue a Master of Fine Arts at the Actors Studio Drama School at New School University.
Cooper began his professional acting career while still in school, acting opposite Sarah Jessica Parker on Sex in the City in 1998 and in the series The Beat. While in graduate school he spent his weekend working with the Learning through the Expanded Arts Program (LEAP), teaching acting and movement to inner city school children. He spent his summers hosting Treks in the Wild World for the Discovery Channel.
His first feature film was shooting when he should have been at his graduation ceremony from the Actors Studio. The film, Wet Hot American Summer, spawned a television series starring Cooper 15 years later. Cooper worked steadily for years including recurring roles on The $treet, Touching Evil, Nip/Tuck and Alias, before his breakout hit movie The Hangover. Cooper had several movie roles prior to The Hangover franchise, but it was that movie franchise that made him a household name and a multi-millionaire. Cooper went from earning just $600,000 for the first movie, to commanding $15 million for the third one.
Cooper, who has long wanted to be a good actor as well as a pretty one, received major award nominations beginning in 2012 with his role in Silver Linings Playbook. He was nominated for the best actor role for it and 2014’s American Sniper. He also was nominated as best supporting actor in 2013 for American Hustle.
With the success of his recent movies, including 2014’s blockbuster hit Guardians of the Galaxy, Cooper is now worth an estimated $65 million.
How much is $65 million?
A two-bedroom Paris apartment would set the French-fluent Cooper back about $350,000. With $65 million, he could buy one every other day for a year.
