Clinton “Clint” Eastwood Jr. dropped out of Los Angeles City College to pursue a career in acting, but the native Californian had primarily B movie roles until landing a part in the television Western “Rawhide” in

1959. Westerns would be very good to Eastwood over the course of his career, contributing some of his most iconic roles and his first Oscars for best director and best picture with Unforgiven. Eastwood was also nominated for best actor for the film, but didn’t win.

At 84, Eastwood directed American Sniper, a movie nominated for Best Picture, but it did not win. Over the course of his directing career, Eastwood has had eleven of the actors he directed nominated for Oscars. Five won.  Although he had already had a recurring role in “Rawhide”, it was Italian director Sergio Leone who first cast Eastwood in Western feature films. Those files, A Fistful of Dollars, A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly were not released in the United States for several years after they were made, but the are considered iconic Eastwood films.

In 1971, though he was too young for the part as originally written, Eastwood landed the role of Dirty Harry Calhoun, probably the most iconic of his roles. Eastwood was 41 at the time and Calhoun was supposed to be in his late 50s. Eastwood’s famous “Make My Day” catch phrase comes from the Dirty Harry movies.

Eastwood’s first foray into the director’s chair came when the director of a movie he was working on became ill. Eastwood has since directed two films that won the Oscar for Best Picture, Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby.

In addition to his acting and directing career, Eastwood is an accomplished jazz pianist and speaks Italian fluently. He has eight children with six different women. He is an outspoken proponent of the Republican Party and served one term as mayor of Carmel-By-the-Sea. He is an avid patron of the arts.

Eastwood has an estimated net worth of $375 million.

How much is $375 million?

Eastwood is famous for saying that for what some films cost to make, you could invade a country. His latest film, American Sniper, cost just under $60 million to make. With his funds, he could make six of them and still have money left over.
