Caitlyn Jenner took the world by storm when she introduced herself on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine.

Caitlyn, formerly known as Bruce Jenner, has become something of a spokesperson for transgendered people as she is one of the most famous people to open up about her gender identity. She has completed much of her transformation from Bruce to Caitlyn in the public eye, offering many educational opportunities for people less acquainted with people who are transgendered. Though she has endured some criticism and some claims that her transformation is a publicity stunt, the over whelming response from most fans and family members has been positive.

Her first official announcement that she is transgendered came in an interview with Barbara Walters after months of speculation in the tabloid press. At that time, Bruce asked to continue to be identified by his previous name and gender until he introduced his new identity. Her magazine cover and subsequent interview were Caitlyn’s introduction to the celebrity world. The same day as the cover officially released, she opened a twitter account and invited fans to get to know her as she gets to know herself.

Caitlyn’s transformation has opened up a very public dialogue about transgender and is seen by many within the LGBTQ community as a positive step. Other well-known transgender celebrities include Laverne Cox and Chaz Bono. Bono completed his transformation somewhat in the public eye, but was not nearly so open as Caitlyn has been.

Caitlyn is father to six children and step-father to the four Kardashian children. During her marriage to Kris Kardashian, she appeared regularly on Keeping up with the Kardashians.  Her divorce from Kris has been tabloid fodder for months. The two did not sign a prenuptual agreement and their combined net worth is an estimated $125 million.

How much is $125 million?

In early 2013, it was estimated to cost about $25,000 for male to female sex reassignment surgery.  Caitlyn has not indicated publicly if she intends to have the surgery, but should she decide to move in that direction, with even half of $125 million  she could have it done more than 2,500 times.
