Name: Amy Beth Schumer
Birthdate: June 1, 1981 New York City, New York, United States
Occupation: stand-up comedian, writer, actress, producer
According to the bio on her website, Amy Schumer “is on the rise in the world of comedy with her blend of honesty, and unapologetic sense of humor.” Given all the success she’s had in the last two years, that statement is incredibly accurate.
Originally born into well-to-do surroundings courtesy of her parents Sandra and Gordon Schumer, Schumer grew up on the Upper East Side of New York City. At the tender age of nine, however, the Schumers went bankrupt, her father was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and Amy moved to Long Island, NY with her mother after her parents divorced. Of course, the emotional upheaval of all these things happening back to back might scar anyone, causing them to retreat into themselves. Amy Schumer took that pain, and began turning it into comedy. Turning a problem into an opportunity may come naturally for Schumer: her great-grandmother Estelle was a bootlegger during Prohibition. Creativity also seems to run in the family, as her brother Jason is a musician based in Chicago, and her younger sister, Kimberly, is a writer and producer on Amy’s show, Inside Amy Schumer.
After graduating from Towson University in Maryland with a degree in theater in 2003, Schumer came back to New York City to further study acting, while also earning money bartending and waiting tables. In 2004, she started doing standup, and appeared on comedy reality gameshow Last Comic Standing in 2007. Her performance on season five of that show led to her regular appearances on Red-Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld, Hoppus on Music with Mark Hoppus of Blink 182 fame, and several Comedy Central Presents specials.
More recently, Schumer starred in the Judd Apatow-produced Trainwreck, and her show, Inside Amy Schumer has just been renewed for a third season on Comedy Central. Amy Schumer’s net worth is reportedly $1 million USD.
How much is $1 million?
If Amy were hyper-narcissisitc, she could buy 50,000 copies of the DVDs for her own show, Inside Amy Schumer, or maybe she could buy a movie ticket for 84,817 of her closest friends to see Trainwreck when it premieres on July 17, 2015.
