Occupation: Actor, Producer, Dancer, Model
Channing Tatum is the son of Kay and Glenn Tatum, an airline and construction worker respectively. He was born in Alabama, but spent much of his childhood in rural Mississippi before going to Catholic High School in Tampa, Florida.
Tatum trained in martial arts as a chi9ld and played football, soccer and baseball, earning him the high school title of most athletic in his 1998 graduating class. He initially went to college at Glenville State College in West Virginia, but dropped out and returned home to Florida. While doing odd job there, at 19, he also worked as a male stripper. In 2010, after he was an actor with world renown, he told an Australian newspaper he’d like to eventually do a movie based on his stripping experience. That led to the global hit, Magic Mike, and the 2015 follow-up Magic Mike XXL.
Tatum got his break in the entertainment industry when he was discovered by an agent in Miami. His first part was as a dancer in a Ricky Martin video and paid him $400. After that, he went on to model for Armani and Abercrombie & Fitch before landing television commercials in 2002. Tatum eventually landed roles in several huge commercial successes including G.I. Joe: Rise of the Cobra and the movie reboot of the television series 21 Jump Street.
Tatum has said in recent interviews that he prefers to act only in movies which he also produces, allowing him to be on the ground floor of the creative process. Tatum struggled with dyslexia and attention deficit disorder in school and said in May, 2014, that he drinks too much and is a high-functioning alcoholic.
He married Jenna Dewan in July 2009 and the couple has one daughter. Tatum has an estimated net worth of $50 million.
How much is $50 million?
Tatum told interviewers that on a good night working as a male stripper he would bring home about $150. If they were all good nights, Tatum would have to strip every day for the next 91 years to make $50 million!
