Name: Windham Lawrence Rotunda, aka Bray Wyatt
Born: May 23, 1987
Occupation: Professional Wrestler
Bray Wyatt is a third-generation professional wrestler, following in the footsteps of his father Mike Rotunda who is perhaps best known for his character Irwin R. Shyster and his grandfather Blackjack Mulligan. He was named for his uncle Barry Windham, who was also his father’s tag team partner for many years.
Like his father, Wyatt got his wrestling start in amateur wrestling, winning his state heavyweight wrestling championship in 2005. Wyatt also played football, playing college ball for four years, first at College of the Sequoias and then at Troy University. He left college 27 credits shy of his bachelor’s degree when he decided to become a professional wrestler.
His uncles Barry and Kendall Windham had been extremely successful in Florida Championship Wrestling and that’s where Wyatt chose to get his start as well. He was trained by his uncle Barry and debuted in FCW in April 2009 using the name Alex Rotondo. He changed that to Duke Rotondo and in June 2009 began tag teaming with his younger brother Taylor, who wrestles under the name Bo Dallas.
They won the tag belts in July and held them until November. The following spring Wyatt joined the WWE’s development division, NXT, with Cody Rhodes as his mentor. He wrestled there under the name Husky Harris. He turned heel three weeks into the NXT show and was eliminated from the program on August 17. While competing on the NXT program, he continued to wrestle in Florida with Husky Harris name.
That fall at Hell in the Cell, Harris attacked John Cena and eventually won the right to a position in The Nexus, but in January, 2011, he was “punted” by Randy Orton and left the WWE indefinitely. When WWE rebranded FCW as a part of NXT Wrestling, Wyatt’s newest incarnation, that of Bray Wyatt and the Wyatt family became part of NXT and in July, 2012, after several months of lead-in, debuted on WWE Raw, attacking Kane.
The Wyatt Family grew in popularity as heels and had several big matches before setting Bray “set sons Rowan and Luke free” to move on as primarily as a singles wrestler. He currently uses the moniker The New Face of Fear.
Wyatt is married and has two children. He currently makes about $200,000 a year working for the WWE and earns about $50,000 in endorsements. His net worth is projected to be about $1 million.
How much is $1 million?
To the average person, $1 million seems like a lot of money, but in Wyatt’s hometown of Brooksville, FL, a single family home can easily cost that much. The nicest homes in that area are seven times as much!
