Name: Christopher Julius Rock III
Born: Andrews, South Carolina
Occupation: Comedian, actor, executive producer and musician
Chris Rock was born on February 7, 1965 in Andrews, South Carolina. He is the son of Julius Rock, a truck driver and newspaper deliveryman, and Rosalie Tingman, a teacher and social worker for the mentally handicapped. He has four brothers, Tony, Kenny, Jordan and Charles (half-brother). His father passed away in 1988.
His family relocated to Brooklyn, New York. He attended James Madison High School, where he was regularly bullied and beaten by white students. Chris’s family pulled him out of the school, but he eventually dropped out and worked at an array of menial jobs. He would go on to earn his GED.
Chris married Malaak Compton in 1996 and had two children, Lola Simone and Zahra Savannah. The couple would announce their divorce in December 2014.
Influenced by Allen Rock, his paternal grandfather and a preacher, Chris delved into the world of stand-up comedy. He started his career in 1984 in New York City’s Catch a Rising Star. His knack in comedy helped land some minor roles in various films and shows, like “Miami Vice.” It wasn’t until he met Eddie Murphy that he rose to prominence – he would get his first major film role in the hit picture “Beverly Hills Cop II.”
In 1990, he became a cast member of “Saturday Night Live,” alongside Adam Sandler, David Spade, Chris Farley and Rob Schneider. One year later, he released his comedy album “Born Suspect” and was given critical acclaim for his role in “New Jack City.”
Several months after leaving SNL, he concentrated on his acting career. This went nowhere for a little while so he returned to stand-up comedy, which seemed like the right thing to do. Chris would go on to win many awards, star in several shows and even landed his own talk show on HBO called “The Chris Rock Show.” All of his stints were celebrated by critics and industry officials.
Chris would later return to the big screen by landing parts in films like “Dogma,” “Beverly Hills Ninja,” “Lethal Weapon 4,” “The Longest Yard,” “Bad Company” and “Grown Ups.” He also wrote and directed the film “Head of State,” and would later produce and narrate his hit television series “Everybody Hates Chris.”
Chris is the author of “Rock This!” and “Chris Rock on Relationships.”
In 2005 and 2016, Chris hosted the Academy Awards. He has been nominated for a large number of awards, including an Emmy (won), Grammy (won) and Critics Choice Award.
We estimate that Chris Rock’s net worth is $70 million (2016).
So how much is $70 million really?
Since Chris is a big baseball fan and has spent a large part of his life in New York City, $70 million can buy you more than 1.2 million tickets to New York Yankees games. $70 million can also buy you seven million copies of his autobiography, “Rock This!”
