Kandi Burruss was born on May 17, 1976 in College Park, Georgia. She is the daughter of Titus Burruss Jr., a Reverend, and Joyce Jones. She is the sister of Patrick Riley, who died in a car accident at the young age of 22.
She studied at Tri-Cities High School and graduated in 1994. She first gained media attention when she appeared on the BET series “Teen Summit” at just 15 years old.
Kandi has been in multiple relationships throughout the years. She previously dated Russell “Block” Spencer, and the two had a daughter named Riley Burruss. In 2008, she started a relationship with Ashley “A.J.” Jewell and eventually became engaged. Unfortunately, about one year later, he passed away from sustaining severe head injuries. In 2013, Kandi announced on Twitter that she was engaged to former television line producer Todd Tucker. They got married a year later and had a baby named Ace in 2016. The family presently lives in Atlanta.
Prior to becoming a reality television star, Kandi was a successful songwriter. Since 1999, Kandi has had numerous international No. 1 hit songs, including “No Scrubs,” “Bills, Bills, Bills for Destiny’s Child” and “There You Go.” This success led her to becoming the first black woman to win the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publisher’s Songwriter of the Year award in 2000.
