Name: Gordon James Ramsay
Born: November 8, 1966
Occupation: Chef, author, entrepreneur and television personality
Gordon Ramsay was born on November 8, 1966 in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland, United Kingdom. He is the son of Gordon James Senior, a swimming pool manager and shopkeeper, and Helen Cosgrove, a nurse. He has three siblings: Diane, Ronnie and Yvonne. They were raised in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England.
Due to abuse and neglect in his youth, Gordon moved out of the family home at the age of 16. Gordon’s ultimate goal in life was to play football. At the age of 12, Gordon played association football in under-14 football. At 18, Gordon had a trial with the football club, Rangers, but his football career ended early because he was marred with various injuries.
Gordon is presently married to Cayetana Elizabeth Hutcheson, a Montessori school teacher. The couple has four children: Megan, Matilda, Jack and Holly. The family currently resides in Wandsworth Common.
Gordon started to show interest in cooking at 19 years of age. He enrolled at the North Oxfordshire Technical College in order to study hotel management. Soon after college, he gained employment as a commis chef at the Wroxton House Hotel, and later as a head chef at the Wickham Arms. He later moved to London to work at a variety of restaurants. He also decided to study French cuisine so he relocated to Paris and studied under some of the best Michelin-starred chefs.
After some time as head chef, he launched his own restaurants, including Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Petrus, Amaryllis, Gordon Ramsay and the list goes on. The Ramsay empire doesn’t seem to slow down a bit.
Gordon first became known to audiences when he was part of a documentary. The documentary showcased his plight to earning a Michelin star. Gordon garnered the attention of television producers in the UK and the United States as he got his own shows called “Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares,” “The F Word” and “Hell’s Kitchen.” Gordon also became a host of an array of shows, including “MasterChef,” “Ramsay’s Best Restaurant” and “Hotel Hell.”
He has been involved in a handful lawsuits, most of them from restaurant owners featured on shows. They allege that the shows employ fakery, but Gordon has won all of the trials.
Gordon Ramsay owns dozens of restaurants all over the world, including in France, Italy, Hong Kong, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Singapore.
The fiery chef has penned numerous cookbooks in his illustrious career, including “A Chef for All Seasons,” “Easy All Year Round,” “Fast Food,” “Ramsay’s Best Menus” and “Cooking for Friends: Food from My Table.”
We estimate that Gordon Ramsay’s net worth is $118 million (2015).
So how much is $118 million really?
$118 million can buy you a dozen or so restaurants (whether or not they succeed is entirely up to you). $118 million can also buy you tens of thousands of copies of his cookbooks, television series and visits to his restaurants all over the world.
