Justin Trudeau was born on December 25, 1971 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He is the son of former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau and Margaret Trudeau. He has two brothers, Alexandre and Michael. His grandfathers are James Sinclair and Charles-Émile Trudeau, a wealthy French entrepreneur.
Justin attended the French immersion program at Rockcliffe Park Public School and later the private schools Lycée Claudel d’Ottawa and Collège Jean-de-Brébeuf. He attended McGill University, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Literature. Also, Justin earned a bachelor of education degree from the University of British Columbia. He would go on to study engineering at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and environmental geography at McGill University. Justin ended his studies prematurely to run for public office.
The prime minister is married to Sophie Gregoire Trudeau. The couple has three children: Xavier, Ella-Grace and Hadrien.
Justin first entered politics in 1988 when he supported Liberal Party leader John Turner in the federal election. Following the death of his father, Justin would be an active member in the federal Liberal Party. One of his moves was supporting Gerard Kennedy for the Liberal Party nomination in 2006, but then would later endorse Stephane Dion.
In that same year, Justin ran for Member of Parliament in the riding of Papineau. He narrowly defeated Bloc Québécois incumbent Vivian Barbot. After winning re-election, Justin decided to throw his name into the Liberal Party race a couple of years after the grits suffered their biggest defeat in Canadian election history.
For two years, Justin headed the Liberal Party and defeated Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Conservatives to win an overwhelming majority government. Since winning the election, Justin has been riding a wave of momentum and popularity, despite numerous controversies surrounding the Prime Minister’s Office.
Just before the federal election, Justin released the book “Common Ground.” In his time before serving in public office, Justin has worked as a substitute teacher, ski and snowboard instructor and activist.
