Name: Joseph Bastianich
Born: Astoria, Queens, New York City, New York
Occupation: Restaurateur, author, television personality and winemaker
Joe Bastianich was born on September 17, 1968 in Astoria, Queens, New York City, New York. He is the son of Felice and Lidia Bastianich, both who are restaurateurs and chefs. He has one sister: Tanya Bastianich Manuali.
Raised in Manhattan, he attended the Fordham Preparatory School. Upon graduation, he attended Boston College and studied finance.
He is married to Deanna and has three children: Ethan, Miles and Olivia. They presently reside in Greenwich, Connecticut.
Prior to venturing into the culinary world, he spent a year on Wall Street working as a bond trader. After giving up a career in the finance industry, he took a long trip to Italy, and this is where he fell in love with food. In 1993, he launched an Italian restaurant with his mother, and then later partnered with Mario Batali to open another Italian restaurant. Both restaurants have garnered rave reviews from such outlets as The New York Times.
Today, Joe has 25 bars and restaurants worldwide, including four in Las Vegas, two in Singapore and two in Hong Kong. In the summer of 2015, he also had a grand reopening of a historical restaurant in Milan, Italy called Ricci.
Since 2005, Joe has authored five books, including “Vino Italiano: The Regional Wines of Italy,” “Restaurant Prime” and “Healthy Pasta: The Sexy, Skinny, and Smart Way to Eat Your Favorite Food.”
Of course, most people will recognize Joe as a judge on the hit reality competition series “MasterChef.” For five seasons, Joe served as the toughest critic on the show, alongside Gordon Ramsay and Graham Elliott. He would quit the show after admitting that it took too much of his time. In addition to “MasterChef,” he has appeared on “MasterChef Junior,” “Restaurant Startup,” “An American Girl: Grace Stirs Up Success” and “Top Gear Italia.”
Over the years, Joe has received a large number of awards, accolades and recognitions. One of them includes the Outstanding Restaurateur Award from the James Beard Foundation.
We estimate that Joe Bastianich’s net worth is $15 million (2016).
So how much is $15 million really?
$15 million could buy you perhaps two (or maybe three) key restaurant locations in Manhattan. $15 million could also buy you a handful of extensive trips to all of Joe’s restaurants in the United States, Italy, Hong Kong and Singapore.
