Although he did consider trying out for the 2000 Summer Olympics, he decided to pursue a career in professional wrestling instead. He would train with his best friend, Brock Lesnar.
Shelton would be given a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2000. He was immediately sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), the promotion’s developmental system. This is where he formed a tag team with Brock Lesnar known as the Minnesota Stretching Crew.
Shelton would make his main roster television debut in 2002. He didn’t have a full-fledged storyline until 2003 when he joined SmackDown! and formed an alliance with Kurt Angle and Charlie Haas. Shelton would be in a tag team with Charlie called The World’s Greatest Tag Team. The duo would go on to win the WWE Tag Team Championships.
He eventually went his own way and would win the Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship, compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match and have one of the greatest Monday Night Raw matches of all-time with legend Shawn Michaels.
Shelton was released from his WWE contract in 2010. Due to his immense talents, Shelton had no shortage of opportunities. Shelton would be brought back to the WWE in mid-2016 and compete on the SmackDown! Live brand. However, due to his injury, his returned has been postponed by several months.
Outside of pro-wrestling, Shelton is an avid fan of video games and art. He is also the godfather of Charlie’s daughter. Shelton leads a very private life.
