Shelton Benjamin was born on July 9, 1975 in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

He would attend the Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, where he became heavily involved in wrestling. During his high school career, Shelton earned a 122-10 overall win-loss record. He would also become a two-time South Carolina state high school heavyweight wrestling champion.

When Shelton entered college, Shelton became a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) college wrestling champion and an NJCAA track and field champion. Because of this, Shelton earned a wrestling scholarship and transferred to the University of Minnesota, where he garnered a 36-6 overall win-loss record. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in sports management.

Although he did consider trying out for the 2000 Summer Olympics, he decided to pursue a career in professional wrestling instead. He would train with his best friend, Brock Lesnar.

Shelton would be given a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) in 2000. He was immediately sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), the promotion’s developmental system. This is where he formed a tag team with Brock Lesnar known as the Minnesota Stretching Crew.

Shelton would make his main roster television debut in 2002. He didn’t have a full-fledged storyline until 2003 when he joined SmackDown! and formed an alliance with Kurt Angle and Charlie Haas. Shelton would be in a tag team with Charlie called The World’s Greatest Tag Team. The duo would go on to win the WWE Tag Team Championships.

He eventually went his own way and would win the Intercontinental Championship and the United States Championship, compete in the Money in the Bank ladder match and have one of the greatest Monday Night Raw matches of all-time with legend Shawn Michaels.

Shelton was released from his WWE contract in 2010. Due to his immense talents, Shelton had no shortage of opportunities. He wrestled across the independent scene and worked with an array of promotions, such as Ring of Honor (ROH), New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW), Global Force Wrestling (GFW) and Pro Wrestling Noah (PWN).

Shelton would be brought back to the WWE in mid-2016 and compete on the SmackDown! Live brand. However, due to his injury, his returned has been postponed by several months.

Outside of pro-wrestling, Shelton is an avid fan of video games and art. He is also the godfather of Charlie’s daughter. Shelton leads a very private life.

We estimate that Shelton Benjamin’s net worth is $2.3 million (2015).

So how much is $2.3 million really?

$2.3 million can help you pay for front-row tickets to episodes of SmackDown! Live and Smackdown-exclusive pay-per-views (PPVs) in order to see Shelton Benjamin up close. $2.3 million can also buy you four-year tuition for several students to the University of Minnesota.
