Zack Snyder was born on March 1, 1966 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He is the son of Charles Edward Snyder, an executive recruiter, and Marsha Manley, a painter and photography teacher. He was raised in Riverside, Connecticut in a Christian Scientist household.
Zack would study painting after he graduated high school in England at the Heatherley School of Fine Art. Upon his return to the United States, Zack would attend the Art Center College of Design in California for visual arts.
He has had three serious relationships. Zack was in a serious relationship with Kirsten Elin, married Denise Weber and is now married to Deborah Snyder. He has eight children, including Eli Snyder. He had four kids with Denise, two with Kirsten and adopted two children with Deborah. His family presently resides in Pasadena, California.
Zack’s first break into the filmmaking industry was as a director and a cinematographer. He would shoot television commercials for an array of automobile brands, including Audi, BMW and Nissan. He also shot TV commercials for other brands, like Gatorade, Nike and Reebok.
Zack would make his feature film debut in 2004 with the remake of the horror classic, “Dawn of the Dead.” Three years later, Zack would rule the box office with the fantasy war movie “300.” In 2009, he released “Watchmen” and generated nearly $200 million internationally. He would later direct “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” and “Sucker Punch,” which were both massively successful.
He would become very well-known for helming the films “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Both pictures received very mixed reviews, but they did generate hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide. He is set to film the first “Justice League” film.
Zack is presently working on an adaptation of the 1943 Ayn Rand novel “The Fountainhead” and “The Last Photograph,” a film about a war photographer in war-torn Afghanistan.
