Matt Hardy was born in Cameron, North Carolina on September 23, 1974. He is the son of Gilbert Hardy and Ruby Moore Hardy. He has one sibling: Jeff Hardy. Matt’s mother died in 1987 from brain cancer.

Matt attended Union Pines High School, where he was an avid baseball and football player. Matt was also celebrated for his academic achievements as he was nominated for a Morehead Award, which was a scholarship to attend any North Carolina university. Upon graduation, Matt attended the University of North Carolina, where he had majored in engineering. He wouldn’t be able to finish his studies because his father became ill. Matt would later attend Sandhills Community College to receive his associate degree.

Matt has been involved in several high-profile relationships. In January 1999, Matt entered into a serious relationship with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) legend and Hall-of-Famer Amy “Lita” Dumas. The couple separated after it was discovered she cheated on him with best friend, Adam “Edge” Copeland, in February 2005. Matt would then date former WWE Diva Ashley Massaro. It was announced in February 2011 that Matt began dating Rebecca Reyes, otherwise known as Reby Sky, a model, actress and professional wrestler. Matt married Rebecca in October 2013, and had their first child, Maxel “Max” Hardy, in June 2015.

Soon after his academic career came to an end, Matt founded his own wrestling federation alongside his brother and friends. It was called the Trampoline Wrestling Federation (TWF). Following the success of TWF, the Hardy brothers launched another wrestling promotion: OMEGA Championship Wrestling. Matt tried to get his foot in the door in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), but to no avail. In the meantime, Matt and his brother competed across the independent wrestling circuit across the east coast, including the New England Wrestling Alliance (NEWA), the New Frontier Wrestling Association (NFWA) and others.

It was in 1994 when he began to compete in the WWE as a jobber. He competed in matches against the likes of Razor Ramon, Owen Hart, Triple H, Steve Austin and an array of others. In 1998, Matt and his brother were signed to full-time WWE contracts and trained under Dory Funk, Jr. They became known as The Hardy Boyz and would go on to become one of the most popular tag teams of all-time. The tag team entered into legendary feuds with the likes of Edge and Christian, The Dudley Boyz, The Acolytes and others.

In 2002, Matt would separate from his brother and pursue a solo career. He would leave the company in 2005 and compete with Ring of Honor (ROH). Matt soon returned to the WWE and entered into a bitter feud with Edge, which added the real life love triangle. After losing the feud, he went to SmackDown!, which didn’t go anywhere. Matt reformed The Hardy Boyz soon after and were involved in a series of feuds.

Matt would become a singles competitor again and would win the United States Championship and the ECW World Heavyweight Championship. Showing his disinterest in the product, Matt was released from the company and went to Total Nonstop Action (TNA), ROH, ICW and others. Matt would rejuvenate his character by transforming into Broken Matt, which is a character that has been very popular in TNA and across the wrestling world.

We estimate that Matt Hardy’s net worth is $3.2 million (2016).

So how much is $3.2 million really?

$3.2 million can help you buy a dilapidated boat (this is a reference wrestling fans will be aware of!). $3.2 million can also help you start a wrestling promotion that can compete against ROH or TNA.
