Megyn Kelly was born in Syracuse, New York on November 18, 1970. She is the daughter of Edward Kelly, an education professor at the State University of New York at Albany, and Linda Kelly, a homemaker. She has one sibling: Pete. Her father passed away from a heart attack when she was just 15 years of age. Megyn is a lifelong Catholic.
Raised in Western New York, Megyn attended the Tecumseh Elementary School and the Bethlehem Central High School. When she graduated from high school, Megyn earned her undergraduate degree in political science from Syracuse University. She also received a J.D. from Albany Law School. Her family presently resides in Rye, New York.
Megyn has been married twice. In 2001, Megyn married anesthesiologist, Daniel Kendall; the marriage ended in 2006. Two years later, Megyn married Douglas Brunt, a business executive turned full-time writer and novelist. Megyn has three children: Edward Yates, Yardley Evans and Thatcher Bray.
At the start of her career, Megyn worked as an associate at a Chicago-based law firm called Bickel & Brewer LLP. She would soon join Jones Day and worked for the firm for nine years. During her time in law, Megyn co-wrote an article entitled “The Conflicting Roles of Lawyers as Director” for the American Bar Association’s Litigation journal.
Following a stint in law, Megyn entered a career in television. She initially started out at ABC but then was tapped by the Fox News Channel (CNN regretted not hiring Megyn at the beginning of her TV career). Megyn has been one of the biggest personalities at both Fox and in the mainstream media. She has gone to battle with politicians of all stripes, strategists and other individuals – Megyn identifies herself as an Independent.
Soon after the controversy with Donald Trump throughout the 2016 United States presidential election, Megyn was signed to a $10 million book deal with HarperCollins. It is an autobiography called “Settle for More.”
Over the years, Megyn has been featured in Time magazine’s list of 100 most influential people, appeared on the front cover of the February 2016 issue of Vanity Fair and was the recipient of an award from Childhelp for covering the area of child abuse.
