Name: Peter Andreas Thiel
Born: October 11, 1967
Occupation: Entrepreneur, investor & philanthropist
Peter Thiel was born in Frankfurt, Germany on October 11, 1967. He is the son of Klaus Thiel, a chemical engineer, and Susanne Thiel, a housewife. He has one sibling: Patrick Michael. The family migrated to the United States and initially resided in Cleveland, Ohio.
Peter had attended several elementary schools because his family had briefly lived in South Africa. The family would finally settle down in Foster City, California. An avid chess player and Ayn Rand reader, Peter excelled in his studies, particularly in mathematics. He attended the San Mateo High School and was the valedictorian of his graduating class of 1985. Upon graduation, Peter attended Stanford University, where he studied philosophy and founded The Stanford Review, a campus paper for those with libertarian and conservative points of view. Peter continued with his studies by going to Stanford Law School and earning his Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1992.
Peter is an open homosexual and is a staunch supporter of gay rights.
Peter initially sought out a legal career after university. Following his failure to attain positions within the Supreme Court, Peter received a position of judicial clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He then moved to New York to try his hand as a securities lawyer for Sullivan & Cromwell. Soon afterwards, he quit the field and worked as a derivatives trader in currency options at Credit Suisse. At the same time, Peter worked as a speechwriter for then-Secretary of Education William Bennett.
Peter would move back to California and found the Thiel Capital Management, a venture capital firm. He struck gold by investing in a firm called Confinity, which would later lead to the multi-billion-dollar victory in PayPal. The group would then park its money in such businesses as Clarium Capital, Palantir and Facebook.
Over the years, Peter has participated in philanthropy and has concentrated his resources on breakthrough technology that can change the world for the better. His three primary fields of interest are life extension, ocean communities and technological singularity.
He has also been politically active over the years. Although he is a member of the Libertarian Party, Peter has supported an array of political candidates, most notably Donald Trump in 2016. Some of the others include Tom Tancredo, John Cornyn, Eric Cantor, Chuck Hagel and Rand Paul.
He co-wrote the book “The Diversity Myth” and co-produced the hit motion picture “Thank You For Smoking.”
We estimate that Peter Thiel’s net worth is $2.7 billion (2016).
So how much is $2.7 billion really?
$2.7 billion can pay for a general election bid for the United States presidency. $2.7 billion can also construct a libertarian ocean community, something that Peter is attempting to build.
