Described as the most threatened politician in The Netherlands, and perhaps even Europe, Geert’s political career started in 1997. He was elected to the municipal council of Utrecth for the People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). After serving just one year, Geert was elected to the national parliament, in which he flew under the radar. It was in 2002 that he started gaining public attention as he became a spokesperson for the VVD and was an outspoken critic of Islamic extremism. Two years later, he left the VVD and formed his own party: the Party for Freedom.
The Party for Freedom has since become one of the most popular political parties in Parliament. At the same time, Geert has morphed into one of the most controversial politicians in all of Europe. Because of the numerous death threats he has received over the years, Geert resides in a state-sponsored safe house, receives security personnel, wears a bulletproof vest and drives in an armored police car.
In 2008, Geert wrote and financed a documentary called Fitna. It looks at how the motivations for terrorism and Islamic universalism through the power of the Koran.
When it comes to other political positions, Geert supports tax cuts and a reduction in state regulations, supports equality under the law, supports better pay for teachers, military, policemen and healthcare workers and supports a reduction on the influence of the European Union (EU).
Due to his controversial stances, he was banned from entering the United Kingdom, Australia and parts of Germany – the ban was overturned in the UK.
We estimate that Geert Wilders’s net worth is $700,000 (2016).
So how much is $700,000 really?
