Mel Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York on January 3, 1956. He is the son of Hutton Gibson, a writer, and Anne Patricia Reilly. His grandmother is Eva Mylott, an opera contralto, and his grandfather is John Hutton Gibson, a millionaire tobacco behemoth. He has 10 brothers.
Raised in Australia from the age of 12, Mel attended the Congregation of Christian Brothers at St. Leo’s Catholic College. He would go on to study at the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney.
In 1980, Mel married Robyn Denise Moore, but divorced after 26 years of marriage. Mel has since dated a wide variety of women, including Rosalind Ross, Violet Kowal, Oksana Grigorieva and Oksana Pochepa.
