Casey Neistat was born in Gales Ferry, Connecticut on March 25, 1981. He has three siblings: Dean, Jordan and Van. His grandmother is Louise Celice Grossman, who was a member of the Radio City Music Hall’s Rockettes throughout World War II.
He attended Ledyard High School but subsequently dropped out in the 10th grade at the age of 15. He never returned to school or attended higher learning centers.
At the age of 17, he had a son with his then-girlfriend, Robin Harris. He would eventually marry Candice Pool, but ended with an annulment after one month. They eventually got back together and were married in 2013. They have one child together, Francine. The couple presently resides in New York City.
At the age of 20, he moved to New York City and worked as a bike messenger. Before his successful YouTube career, Casey produced a handful of documentaries and television shows, including “iPod’s Dirty Secret” and “Science Experiment.” In 2008, HBO purchased an eight-episode TV series from Casey called “The Neistat Brothers.” The series featured eight fictional tales involving the brothers.
Casey is also an accomplished director as he has directed TV commercials for a wide array of brands, including Google, Mercedes-Benz and Samsung.
In July 2015, Casey released the version of a video sharing application named Beme. It was purchased by CNN in November 2016 for $25 million.
For years, Casey has delivered speeches on both filmmaking and his life. He has spoken for the South Carolina Arts Education Association, the Museum of Modern Art, The Nantucket Project and TEDx.
In 2010, Casey started utilizing YouTube. His first successful video was about when and when not to use the emergency brake cord on the New York City Subway. One of his other viral videos was about his encounter with a police officer over bike lanes. Since then, he posts daily vlogs that cover a wide variety of topics, everything from his personal life to current events.
To date, he has nearly six million subscribers and his near 800 videos have generated tens of millions of views.
