Kathy Griffin was born in Oak Park, Illinois on November 4, 1960. She is the daughter of Mary Margaret Griffin, a hospital cashier, and John Patrick Griffin. Kathy has four siblings: John, Joyce, Gary and Kenny.
She attended Oak Park and River Forest High School. During her teenage years, Kathy studied musical theater, performing in such shows as “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” and “Fiddler on the Roof.” Instead of going to college, she jumped right into the entertainment industry.
Kathy was first married to Matthew Moline, but they divorced in 2006. Over the years, Kathy has been involved in a wide array of relationships, including with actor Jack Black, executive Steven Wozniak, Levin Johnston and marketing executive Randy Bick. She presently resides in Bel Air, California.
Kathy started her career when she was 18 – her very first gig was appearing in a television commercial for the Chicago White Sox as an extra. Relocating to Los Angeles, Kathy began to perform with The Groundlings, an improv comedy troupe. She would later launch her standup comedy career, focusing on alternative comedy in LA.
In addition to standup comedy, Kathy has appeared in various films and television shows. Some of her credits include “Pulp Fiction,” “Seinfeld,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” “Truth or Dare,” “Civil Wars” and “Dilbert.” She has also hosted her own talk show and was a guest co-host of “The View.” That said, Kathy has been fired or banned from appearing on multiple television programs like “The View” and “Hannah Montana.”
She is most likely known for her co-hosting duties with Anderson Cooper on CNN’s New Year’s Eve broadcast. Kathy was fired from the news network in 2017 when she was photographed holding a mock severed bloody head of United States President Donald Trump.
Outside of the entertainment business, Kathy is politically active, especially pertaining to LGBT rights. She is the author of “A Memoir According to Kathy Griffin” and “Kathy Griffin’s Celebrity Run-Ins: My A-Z Index.” Kathy has been nominated for many awards, including a Grammy and an Emmy.
