Name: Craig Michael Kimbrel
Born: May 28, 1988
Craig Kimbrel was born in Huntsville, Alabama on May 28, 1988. He is the son of Mike Kimbrel and Sandy Kimbrel and has two siblings, Alan and Matt, who also played in the Atlanta Braves minor league system.
Craig attended Lee High School and then Wallace State Community College.
In May 2012, Craig proposed to long time girlfriend Ashley Holt. The couple were married in December 2012.
In 2007, Craig had the opportunity to be drafted by the Atlanta Braves, but he decided to stay in college for another year to improve his draft number. During the 2008 MLB draft, Craig was selected 96th overall by the Braves. After playing in the team’s minor league system, he was called up twice in 2010, filling in for Jair Jurrjens and Takashi Soto. Craig recorded his first major league save in September 2010.
Craig was chosen to play on the Braves roster in 2011, which turned out to be a massive success. He was selected to the 2011 All Star Game, finished the season with 46 saves and recorded 127 strikeouts in 77 innings of relief. He repeated this success in 2012, 2013 and 2014. The Braves signed him to a four-year, $42 million extension, but he was soon after traded to the San Diego Padres.
In 2015, the Padres traded Craig to the Boston Red Sox. After a mediocre 2016 season – thanks to an injured knee – Craig has become one of the most dominant relievers in baseball.
He is a six-time All-Star and has won the National League Rookie of the Year award, MLB Delivery Man of the Year Award and the Trevor Hoffman Award.
We estimate that Craig Kimbrel’s net worth is $30 million (2016).
So how much is $30 million really?
$30 million can pay for the annual salary of Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price. $30 million can also help re-sign Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts and Andrew Benintendi to big contracts.
