Jeff Bezos was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 12, 1964. He is the son of Ted Jorgenson and Jacklyn Gise. He has two siblings: Mark and Christina.
Jeff attended River Oaks Elementary School and later Miami Palmetto High School. During high school, he participated in the Student Science Training Program at the University of Florida. Upon graduation, he attended Princeton University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineer and computer science.
Jeff has been married to his wife, Mackenzie, since 1994 and they have four children.
He started his career soon after university, working on Wall Street and specializing in computer science. Jeff worked with Fitel, Bankers Trust and D.E. Shaw & Co. In 1994, he went into business for himself, launching Amazon.com and becoming a billionaire in the process.
In addition to creating Amazon.com, he also established Blue Origin, a human spaceflight startup firm, and purchased The Washington Post for $250 million in cash. He further made his money by being one of the first shareholders of Google, earning $3.1 billion.
Jeff has delved into a wide variety of fields, investing in a wide array of businesses, including Airbnb, Twitter, Uber and Workday.
Outside of business, he is heavily involved in philanthropy. Some of the non-profit endeavors Bezos Expeditions has funded consist of Bezos Center for Innovation at the Seattle Museum of History and Industry, Bezos Center for Neural Circuit Dynamics at Princeton Neuroscience Institute and Bezos Family Foundation. He also spent millions of dollars in support of same-sex marriage referendums.
Despite his success and many accolades, Jeff has been criticized for his managing style, accused of maintaining a difficult, challenging and stressful workplace. The New York Times and other publications have reported multiple accounts from ex-employees about how hard it is to work under Jeff and his managers.
