Kit Harington was born in London, England on December 26, 1986. He is the son of Sir David Richard Harington, a businessman, and Deborah Jane Catesby, a former playwright. He has one sibling, John.

Kit attended the Southfield Primary School and later the Chantry High School. Following his secondary studies, he attended Worcester Sixth Form College to study drama and theater. He returned to London and enrolled in the Central School of Speech and Drama.

He has been in a relationship with Scottish actress Rose Leslie since 2012 and they moved in together in 2017.
