Name: Terrence Jon Francona
Born: April 22, 1959
Occupation: MLB manager
Terry Francona was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota on April 22, 1959. He is the son of Tito Francona, a former baseball player for the Cleveland Indians, and Roberta Jackson. He has one sibling: Amy.
Raised in Pennsylvania, Terry attended New Brighton Area High School. After his high school graduation, Terry studied at the University of Arizona, where he played college baseball.
Terry has been married to Jacque Lang since 1982. The couple has four children: Nicholas, Alyssa, Leah and Jamie – all of whom are baseball players. His only son was a lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps and was also drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2003.
After a successful stint in college baseball, where he won multiple awards, he was drafted in the 1980 draft by the now-defunct Montreal Expos. Terry would make his major league debut in August 1981, playing in the outfield. He eventually transitioned to first base, where he would primarily play.
Four seasons later, the Expos released Terry, who was then picked up by the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Indians and the Milwaukee Brewers. Terry would retire in 1990, finishing his career with a .274 career batting average, 16 home runs and 143 home runs.
Still in love with the game of baseball, Terry shifted into coaching, joining the Chicago White Sox organization and managing minor league teams. His success in Class A and AA ball prompted the Detroit Tigers to hire Terry as a third-base coach. After just one season in major league coaching, the Philadelphia Phillies signed Terry as the team’s manager. Despite little success with the Phillies, the Boston Red Sox took a chance on Terry, and it paid off: the Red Sox won a World Series Championship for the first time in 86 years.
Terry continued the Red Sox success, winning the American League East division and winning another World Series championship. Unfortunately, after disappointing results in 2011, the team did not exercise Terry’s 2012 option. Terry quickly found work, being hired by the Cleveland Indians in 2013, a move that helped the team to make it to the World Series in 2016.
Overall, Terry has about 1,500 wins in his managerial career, two World Series rings and several accolades and awards to his credit.
Terry has also worked in the broadcast booth, commentating for Fox Sports and ESPN.
We estimate that Terry Francona’s net worth is $5 million (2017).
So how much is $5 million really?
$5 million can pay for just one year of Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon’s contract. $5 million can also buy front-row seats to every Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox post-season game.
