Name: Christopher Orme Plummer
Born: December 13, 1929
Occupation: Actor and writer
Christopher Plummer was born in Toronto, Ontario on December 13, 1929. He is the son of John Orme Plummer, a stock broker, and Isabella Mary Abbott, a McGill University senior secretary. He also has a family connection to former Canadian Prime Minister Sir John Abbott, actor Nigel Bruce, and McGill president John Bethune.
Christopher initially planned to be a concert pianist, and enrolled in the necessary studies. However, he quickly turned his attention to the theater at a young age and started acting in high school. Christopher attended McGill University and majored in acting – his biggest inspiration was Laurence Olivier.
He has been married three times. First to actress Tammy Grimes (1956 to 1960), then to journalist Patricia Lewis (1962 to 1967), and then to actress Elaine Taylor (1970 to present). Christopher has one daughter, Amanda. He currently lives in Weston, Connecticut.
After performing in a variety of high school plays, Christopher was finally noticed by a Montreal theater critic, who decided to cast him in “La Machine infernale” as Oedipus at the tender age of 18. In 1953, Christopher would make his Broadway debut in “The Starcross Story,” which led to numerous other plays in both New York City and London – and the opportunity to serve as legendary actor Tyrone Power’s understudy. He would eventually garner critical acclaim for his appearances in “Othello” as Iago, “Macbeth” as the title character, and “Barrymore” as John Barrymore.
He made his motion picture debut in the 1958 Sydney Lumet picture “Stage Struck.” Many will remember Christopher in the box office and iconic smash hit “The Sound of Music.” For 50-plus years, Christopher has maintained a successful Hollywood career.
In addition to the stage and film, Christopher has appeared in more than 100 television projects.
Many will recognize Christopher as an actor, but he has also written for the stage, television, and, remarkably, concert-halls.
Christopher has received multiple awards and honors, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, a Tony Award for Best Leading Actor in a Musical, an Emmy Award for Best Actor, a Companion for the Order of Canada, honorary doctorates, and Hall of Fame inductions.
Christopher recently made headlines when it was announced he would be replacing alleged child molestor Kevin Spacey in the Ridley Scott film “All the Money in the World.” He reportedly re-shot scenes alongside stars Mark Wahlberg and Michelle Williams for the movie.
We estimate that Christopher Plummer’s net worth is $20 million (2017).
So how much is $20 million really?
$20 million can purchase several homes in the state of Connecticut. $20 million can also pay for the tuition of dozens of students to attend McGill University.
