Name: Angela Brigid Lansbury
Born: October 16, 1925
Angela Lansbury was born in London, England on October 16, 1925. She is the daughter of Edgar Lansbury, a politician and entrepreneur, and Moyna Macill, an actress. She has three siblings: Bruce, Edgar, and Isolde.
Angela attended South Hampstead High School, but she professes that she was self-educated, absorbing a lot of information from books, motion pictures, and theater. She eventually studied acting at the Webber Douglas School of Singing and Dramatic Art as well as the Feagin School of Drama and Radio. Angela, in her spare time, learned the piano at the Ritman School of Dancing.
Angela has been married only two times: first to actor Richard Cromwell and then to actor Peter Shaw. She has two children: Deirdre Angela and Anthony. Angela presently resides in Brentwood, California.
Although she got her acting start on the stage and in radio, Angela would rise to international fame for her roles in a wide variety of films and television shows.
In the early 1940s, Angela gained commercial success and critical acclaim for her roles in “Gaslight,” “The Picture of Dorian Gray,” and “National Velvet.” She would land several MGM and Paramount movie parts, but it wasn’t until 1962 when she would get the part of a lifetime in “The Manchurian Candidate.”
Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Angela would return to the stage, and star in a number of Broadway musicals and plays that would turn out to be critical and commercial smash hits. But in 1984, Angela would become an international icon for her portrayal of the legendary Jessica Fletcher in “Murder, She Wrote.” Once again, throughout her tenure on the series and following its conclusion, Angela was still heavily involved in the theater.
Over the years, Angela has received a large number of awards, honors, and distinctions for her extensive contribution to the world of acting. Some of these include a Golden Globe Award, an Lifetime Honorary Oscar, and being given the Dame label from the British monarchy.
Outside of the entertainment industry, Angela is quite the philanthropist, supporting charities and non-profit organizations that combat domestic abuse, chain smoking, and HIV/AIDS.
Despite being 92 years old, Angela recently garnered controversy for claiming:
“There are two sides to this coin. We have to own up to the fact that women, since time immemorial, have gone out of their way to make themselves attractive. And unfortunately it has backfired on us – and this is where we are today.
“We must sometimes take blame, women. I really do think that. Although it’s awful to say we can’t make ourselves look as attractive as possible without being knocked down and raped.”
She has since apologized and stated that her remarks were taken out of context.
Her two favorite television shows are Jerry Seinfeld‘s “Seinfeld” and Roseanne Barr’s “Roseanne.”
We estimate that Angela Lansbury’s net worth is $65 million (2017).
So how much is $65 million really?
$65 million can cover just a third of the average Hollywood box office budget. $65 million can also purchase every single motion picture and TV show on DVD that starred Angela Lansbury.
