Jagmeet Singh was born in Scarborough, Ontario on January 2, 1979. He is the son of Jagtaran Singh and Harmeet Kaur, and he has two siblings: Gurratan and Manjot.

Raised in St. John’s Newfoundland, Windsor, Ontario, and Beverly Hills, Michigan, Jagmeet has attended many primary and secondary schools. In 2001, Jagmeet earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Western Ontario. Four years later, he received a Bachelor of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law school York University. In 2006, he was called to the Bar of the Law Society of Upper Canada. In addition to English, he also speaks French, Hindi, and Punjabi.

After college, Jagmeet was a successful criminal defence attorney in Toronto, first working for a law firm and then establishing his own practice, Singh Law. As the firm grew more successful, Jagmeet proceeded to provide free legal rights seminars and pro bono legal counsel.

In 2011, Jagmeet entered the political arena, running as a member of the New Democratic Party (NDP). He lost by a minuscule sum, but that did not stop him from continuing his political endeavors. Jagmeet tossed his hat in the 2011 Ontario election, also as an NDP candidate, and was victorious.

After several years at Queen’s Park, he decided to tip his toe in federal politics, seeking the NDP leadership. In October 2017, during the NDP convention, he was victorious in the first round, winning nearly 54 percent of the vote.

He has quickly become a popular figure in Canadian politics, rivaling that of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau – Jagmeet is also beating Conservative leader Andrew Scheer on this front. He is celebrated for his attire, eloquence, and positions on sensitive of topics.

Some of his stances include supporting LGBT rights, raising the minimum wage to $15, adopting new taxes, implementing police accountability and transparency policies, and the legalization of all drugs, including cocaine and heroin.

Outside of politics, he is an avid Brazil jiu-jitsu grappler.

We estimate that Jagmeet Singh’s net worth is $4 million (2017).

So how much is $4 million really?

$4 million can buy hundreds of new suits at Yorkdale Mall. $4 million can also cover a portion of the cost of running a federal election campaign.
