Katherine Heigl was born in Washington, D.C. on November 24, 1978. She is the daughter of Paul Heigl, a financial executive, and Nancy Engelhardt, a personal manager. She has three siblings: Holt, Jason, and Meg.
Katherine attended New Canaan High School, and she graduated in 1997.
In December 2007, Katherine married musician Josh Kelley. The couple have three children: Naleigh, Adalaide, and Joshua Bishop. The family currently lives Malibu, California.
Katherine’s entertainment career started when she was just nine years old. After her aunt distributed photos of her nine-year-old niece to a wide array of agencies, Katherine was tapped by Wilhelmina Models, modeling for various fashion catalogues.
