Ronda Rousey was born in Riverside, California on February 1, 1987. She is the daughter of Ron Rousey, an athlete, and AnnMaria De Mars Waddell, a Ph.D. in educational psychology. She has three siblings: Jennifer, Julia, and Maria Burns-Ortiz. Her stepfather is an aerospace engineer.
Ronda dropped out of high school, but she did obtain her GED later in life.
In August 2017, Ronda married Travis Browne, a UFC fighter, and they presently split their time in three different properties across California. She was also in previous relationships with UFC fighter Brendan Schaub and Timothy Digorrio.
Ronda became involved in martial arts when she was just 11 years old. She specialized in judo, eventually competing at the 2004 Olympic Games and the World Junior Judo Championships. Three years later, Ronda competed at the World Judo Championships and the Pan American Games. She also participated in the 2008 Olympic Games, becoming the first American to win an Olympic medal in women’s judo.
When she turned 21, Ronda quit judo to concentrate on mixed martial arts. She studied MMA at the Hayastan MMA Academy as well as Jiu Jitsu at Dynamix MMA. Between 2010 and 2011, Ronda fought in various MMA tournaments, which allowed her to sign with Strikeforce, winning the Women’s Bantamweight Championship in less than a year.
Ronda would get her biggest break in 2012 when she signed a contract with UFC, making her the first female fighter to sign with the company. Winning the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Ronda would quickly become one of the biggest draws in the promotion, generating at least one million pay-per-view buys on three occasions. At three years on top, Ronda lost to Holly Holm by knockout.
In January 2018, it was announced that Ronda signed a full-time contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). She made her debut at the Royal Rumble, shaking hands with Stephanie McMahon, Charlotte Flair, Asuka, and Alexa Bliss.
Because of her immense success, charming personality, and incredible physical presence, Ronda became one of the biggest stars on the planet. She has graced the covers of multiple magazines worldwide, and has appeared in a wide variety of television shows and motion pictures. Ronda also launched her own production company, Road House.
