Name: Thomas Hannifan
Born: May 19, 1989
Occupation: Sports announcer
Tom Phillips was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 19, 1989.
Tom first became interested in broadcasting when he was in high school, where he served as a public-address announcer for football games. He was also active in sports, playing football and participating in track and field. Upon his graduation from high school, Tom enrolled in Penn State University, majoring in broadcast journalism. During his studies, he was involved in the university’s student-run radio station, COMRadio.
One of his first jobs was a play-by-play announcer for Juniata College’s basketball and football teams. Because the pay was not high ($50 per game), Tom worked as a waiter to put some extra dollars in his pocket. This ended in 2012, when he was hired by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
Tom started his tenure at the billion-dollar professional-wrestling promotion performing backstage interviews for the company’s mobile application on Raw. He would also be the Social Media Lounge host on WWE’s pay-per-view shows and host the defunct YouTube show “5 Things.” He quickly became the lead announcer on “Superstars,” “Main Event,” and “SmackDown.”
He has also lent his announcing skills to NXT, “205 Live,” and WrestleMania.
Tom got into a bit of controversy in February 2017 when it was discovered that he was caught in a sexting scandal with a woman he was having an affair with. Despite Twitter roasting Tom, and fans taking him to task, it did not impact his standing with the company.
We estimate that Tom Phillips’s net worth is $500,000 (2017).
So how much is $500,000 really?
$500,000 can pay for a handful of students’ tuition to attend Penn State University. $500,000 can also start your own professional-wrestling promotion.
