Name: Gary Leonard Oldman
Born: March 21, 1958
Occupation: Actor, musician, writer, and filmmaker
Gary Oldman was born in London, England on March 21, 1958. He is the son of Kathleen Cheriton and Leonard Bertram Oldman, a sailor and welder. He has one sibling, Laila Morse.
Gary studied at West Greenwich School, but he dropped out of school at 16. He did intend to become a musician, playing the piano and singing, but he wanted to become an actor instead. He attended the Young People’s Theatre and then earned a scholarship to study at Rose Bruford College, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in acting in 1979.
He has been married five times: Lesley Manville (1987 to 1990), Uma Thurman (1990 to 1992), Donya Florentino (1997 to 2001), and Alexandra Edenborough (2008 to 2015). He is currently married to Gisele Schmidt, a writer and art curator. He has three children: Alfie, Charlie John, and Gulliver Flynn. He lives in Los Angeles, California.
When he finished school, he immediately landed parts on stage, much of which were critically-acclaimed and award-winning. He eventually branched out, and earned a role in the 1986 motion picture “Sid and Nancy,” which propelled him to Hollywood stardom.
Gary moved to the U.S. and would find instant success. He would garner parts in “JFK,” “Bram Stoker’s Dracula,” “True Romance,” “Leon: The Professional,” and “The Contender.” After a couple of disappointing years, Gary reignited his career with performances in “Harry Potter,” “The Dark Knight Trilogy,” “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,” and “Lawless.”
In 2017, he would finally earn a part that would give him an Academy Award for Best Actor: “The Darkest Hour,” a film about the early days of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
Gary now has five projects in the making, including “Mary,” “Hunter Killer,” and “Flying Horse.”
He has both stepped behind the camera and stepped away from the industry. Gary has written a vampire book series, he directed the critically-acclaimed movie “Nil by Mouth,” and has performed live music and recorded music for film soundtracks.
Despite his Hollywood success, Gary has had trouble with alcohol and has gotten into situations with the law. He has also entered into disputes with studios, reportedly criticizing the pro-Democratic leanings of “The Contender,” which some say blacklisted Gary for a few years (hence the slump from 2001 to 2004), and award ceremonies.
We estimate that Gary Oldman’s net worth is $50 million (2018).
So how much is $50 million really?
$50 million can produce a motion picture about a famous person that can then be portrayed by Gary Oldman. $50 million can also pay for the budget of a Christopher Nolan film, who would likely tap Gary for a part.
