Name: Drew Blyth Barrymore
Born: 22 February 1975
Occupation: Actress, Director, Screenwriter, Producer, Model
Granddaughter of John Barrymore, regarded by many as one of the greatest actors and directors of the 1920s, actress Drew Barrymore comes from a highly respected family of thespians. It is no surprise, then, that her first onscreen appearance came at the tender age of 11 months, when she was featured in a television commercial. Barrymore soon began her career as a child actress and gained global attention when she appeared in Steven Spielberg’s E.T., at seven years old.
Sadly, Drew’s adolescence was marred by her battle with drugs and alcohol, having started smoking cigarettes at just 9 years old. Within four years, Barrymore had experimented with cocaine. A year later she attempted suicide and was sent to rehab. Fortunately, the young actress overcame her substance abuse problems and turned her life around, all of which is documented in the autobiography she released in 1990, titled Little Girl Lost.
As an adult, Drew Barrymore has been awarded lead roles in an impressively long list of box office hits, including He’s Just Not That Into You, Scream, Music and Lyrics, Donnie Darko and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle (co-starring Cameron Diaz). Many of these movies were actually made by Barrymore’s own production company Flower Films. Movies such as, He’s Just Not That Into You (co-starring Scarlett Johansson), which just goes to show how broad her talents really are. Drew has also appeared as the face of Gucci lines and CoverGirl and has her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In more recent years Barrymore’s career has been more diverse and she has also devoted a greater amount of time to charity work. As a matter of fact, she was announced as the Ambassador Against Hunger for the UN World Food Program – a cause to which she has already donated at least $1 million dollars. But since we estimate Drew’s net worth at about $125,000,000, she can probably afford to.
So how much is $125 million really?
If the world was about to end and Drew just wanted to splurge her entire fortune away in the blink of an eye, she could always buy herself a mansion from which to enjoy the impending apocalypse. In 2012, a Miami mansion was placed on the property market for a staggering $125 million, despite a pretty horrific history. World-renowned designer Gianni Versace was actually shot on the mansion’s doorstep in 1997, by a now infamous serial murderer. Still, the des-res does boast 10 bedrooms and 11 bathrooms…
Alternatively, if Barrymore simply wants a ‘small treat’ – relative to her finances, of course – then she may just opt to buy a $1 million dog. In 2011, this is how much a Red Tibetan Mastiff puppy was sold for. Despite a cuddly appearance, these dogs are actually very large and potentially very dangerous, which is probably why they have been used as guard dogs by Tibetan monasteries for many, many years.
