Name: Sir Elton Hercules John
Born: 25 March 1947
Occupation: Singer, Songwriter, Composer, Pianist, Actor
Sir Elton John was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in Pinner, Middlesex, England. He began playing the piano when he was only three years old and started lessons when he was seven. He played for family and friends and began playing for money when he was 15. He went to school in Middlesex until he was 17 when he left to begin a career in music.
He coined the name Elton John by combining the names of Elton Dean, a saxophone player and Long John Baldry, a singer. Soon after leaving home his path crossed with Bernie Taupin and they quickly established a collaboration. They began writing music and released their first album, Elton John, in 1970 which included the hit “Your Song.” From that point on the hits just kept coming. He has more than fifty hits on the Top 40 list and the single “Candle in the Wind 1997” sold 37 million copies worldwide. In the U.S. alone, he had seven number one albums in a row.
All in all, Elton John has sold more than 200 million records worldwide and has become one of the most beloved artists of all time. In addition to his incredible array of music, he is also known for his flamboyant dress and costumes. He was inducted, in 1994, to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He continues to write, play, sing, and perform. One of his most recent ventures was the animated movie Gnomeo and Juliet, on which he collaborated with his long time love David Furnish, who he joined with in civil partnership during 2005. He had been married before to German music engineer Renate Blauel in 1984 but the union only lasted four years.
Because Elton John has such commercial success and because he’s been in the business for over 40 years, it’s not too hard to believe his bank account. We estimate Elton John’s net worth to be about $320 million dollars (200,000,000 GBP).
So how much is $320 million dollars really?
If Elton John was considering purchasing another home (to add to the collection he’s already started), he could buy the Silicon Valley Mansion, the most expensive home in the U.S. While he could buy three of them, that’s not a whole lot, so he may want to invest his money in the future. The future of kids.
The most expensive piano in the world was once owned by John Lennon and is reportedly worth $2,100,000, due in part to the fact that he used it to write “Imagine” on it. If there were enough of these, Elton could buy 152 of them and support music programs for kids in schools around the world….just imagine.
