Name: Jacob William Rees-Mogg
Born: May 24, 1969
Occupation: Investment banker and politician
Jacob Rees-Mogg was born in London, England on May 24, 1969. He is the son of William Rees-Mogg, a former newspaper editor, and Gillian Shakespeare Morris. He has four siblings: Charlotte Louise, Thomas Fletcher, Annunziata, and Emma Beatrice. His grandfather is Thomas Richard Morris, a prominent Conservative politician and former mayor.
After he finished prep school, Jacob enrolled in Eton College, and then the University of Oxford.
He has been married to Helena de Chair since 1997, and the couple has six children: Peter, Mary, Thomas, Anselm, Alfred, and Sixtus. The family lives at Gournay Court in West Harptree.
Following his post-secondary studies, he garnered employment at the Rothschild investment bank and relocated to Hong Kong for three years. When he returned to London, he managed some of the company’s emerging markets funds, and was eventually in charge of the Lloyd George Emerging Markets Fund. In 2007, he left the company to start Somerset Capital Management, a fund management firm, with several other colleagues.
Although he first dipped his toe into politics in 1997, his political career started in 2010 when he became a Conservative Member of Parliament for North East Somerset. He has served under both Prime Minister David Cameron and Prime Minister Theresa May. There has been some talk over the years that he might attempt to lead the Conservative Party, especially as he has criticized both Cameron and May on a regular basis over Brexit and a number of other subjects. He has been elected three times.
Here are some of his political positions: opposes the European Union (EU), supports free market economics, endorses more of a non-interventionist foreign policy, advocates for controlled immigration policies, opposes same-sex marriage but doesn’t want to change laws, opposes abortion but doesn’t want to change laws, and supports academy-based education.
His own brand of politicians has sparked various names, such as MoggMania, Moggism, Moggsterism, and Moggmentum.
We estimate that Jacob Rees-Mogg’s net worth is $100 million (2018).
So how much is $100 million really?
$100 million is about one-third of what was spent on the Brexit referendum campaign. $100 million can pay for a political leadership campaign.
