Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was born in The Bronx, New York. She is the daughter of Sergio Ocasio, an architect, and Blanca Ocasio-Cortez. Her family would later relocate to a wealthy neighborhood of Westchester County.

She graduated from Yorktown High School in 2007. Alexandria enrolled in Boston University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in international relations and economics in 2011. During her time in college, Alexandria interned in the immigration office for U.S. Senator Ted Kennedy.

Alexandria is presently married and resides in the Bronx.

Once she completed her post-secondary studies, she returned to her hometown, where she worked as a bartender and a waitress. Alexandria would eventually start the Brook Avenue Press, a publishing company that was financially supported by the Sunshine Bronx Business Incubator. She was also an educator at the National Hispanic Institute and volunteered as the Educational Director of the 2017 Northeast Collegiate World Series.

She first entered the world of politics when she served as an organizer for the 2016 presidential campaign of Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT). In 2018, Alexandria ran in the Democratic primary for New York’s District 14, competing against 10-term incumbent Representative Joseph Crowley.

The odds were stacked against her: Crowley’s campaign spent $3.4 million to Alexandria’s $200,000; establishment Democrats, like Governor Andrew Cuomo and Senator Chuck Schumer endorsed her opponent; and the mainstream press gave her very little coverage, leading to widespread criticism. She did garner support from New York gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon, Black Lives Matter, and certain wings of the Democratic Party.

In the end, she received more than 57 percent of the vote, compared to Crowley’s 42 percent. Alexandria will now compete against Republican nominee Anthony Pappas, an economics professor. So far, no one believes he will win, especially since Alexandria is now a media darling.

Alexandria is a democratic socialist. She favors a federal job guarantee, free tuition, free healthcare, and forgiving U.S. student loan debt. She also wants to abolish U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), create a Green New Deal, and impeach President Donald Trump.

Since becoming a political rock star overnight, she has received some negative press. It was reported that she, despite claiming to be a “Girl from the Bronx,” was raised in an affluent neighborhood. Also, a former colleague claimed Alexandria kept most of the tips at Flats Fix rather than sharing it among her co-workers.

We estimate that Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s net worth is $200,000 (2018).

So how much is $200,000 really?

$200,000 can pay off the tuition for a master’s degree. $200,000 represents about one-fifth of what Senator Bernie Sanders makes in a year.

  1. Although she is college educated and considering her major was in international relations and economics she sounds so uneducated and unrealistic every time she opens her mouth about her democratic socialist agenda. Free everything where the heck is the money going to come from and what happens when there is no more money. She needs to take her head out of her rear end and look at facts and reality. If she and all those in in favor of socialism let them leave the great USA and move to a socialist country like Venezuela.

  2. Her father was the founder of Kirschrnbaum Ocasio-Roman PC which had an annual income of 1-2.5 million dollars. Grew up in Manhattan her fathers business was in the Bronx and was considered a small business because it had les than 10 employees. But they were not poor.

  3. There is as many ignorant people duped by her ignorance. She comes from affluence, and hasn’t a clue what it is like to live under oppressive socialistic dictatorship. She is the ultimate hype and would run our economy into shambles. The blind leading the blind into a ditch.

  4. I have relations that live in Poland that have experienced living under socialist rule (before the fall of the Soviet Union). Everything is rationed. You live in a dank, poorly-constructed apartment. But the worst part of socialism is having covert “minders” and your neighbours turning you in to the government for “offenses” against the state; like owning music and books not approved by the state.
