Andrew Gillum was born in Miami, Florida on July 26, 1979. He is the son of Frances Gillum, a school bus driver, and Charles Gillum, a construction worker. He has six siblings, including Marcus.

Andrew attended Gainesville High School and then relocated upstate to attend the Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) to study political science. He had quite the academic career at FAMU: he served as president of the FAMU Student Government Association, served on the FAMU Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Black Youth Vote Coalition.

Andrew has been married to R. Jai Howard since May 2009. The couple has three children: Davis Allen, Jackson, and Caroline.

Even prior to graduating from college, Andrew became heavily involved in politics, getting elected to the Tallahassee City Commission at the age of 23, which allowed him to dip his toes in politics. In April 2013, Andrew ran for mayor of Tallahassee, defeating Larry Hendricks, Zach Richardson, and write-in candidate Evin Matthews.

In March 2017, Andrew announced that he was running for governor of the state of Florida as a Democrat. In August 2018, he beat former Congresswoman Gwen Graham to become the first black nominee for Florida governor. Andrew will now face Ron DeSantis in the general election in November.

Andrew is described as a democratic socialist and a progressive. He wants to expand Medicare for all, impeach President Donald Trump, abolish the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and raise the state corporate tax rate. These policies prompted Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) to endorse Andrew.

We estimate that Andrew Gillum’s net worth is $335,000 (2018).

So how much is $335,000 really?

$335,000 can purchase a home in the suburbs of Tallahassee, Florida. $335,000 can also purchase several television advertisements to publicize a political campaign or criticize the opposition.
