Name: Naomi Osaka
Born: October 16, 1997
Naomi Osaka was born in Osaka, Japan on October 16, 1997. She is the daughter of Leonard Francois and Tamaki Osaka. She has one sibling: Mari, who is also a professional tennis player.
Relocating to the United States at just three years of age to the state of Florida, Naomi attended Elmont Alden Terrace Primary and Broward Virtual High School. She studied tennis at the Harold Solomon Institute and ProWorld Tennis Academy.
At just 16 years old, Naomi became a professional tennis player, registering with the Japanese Tennis Association and debuted on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tour at the 2014 Bank of the West Classic. Naomi has had plenty of success on the tennis circuit, competing against high-profile names, taking her challengers to their limits, and reaching the finals of many tournaments.
In 2016, she was named Newcomer of the Year at the WTA Awards.
But in September 2018, Naomi would capture international headlines for her stunning defeat of tennis legend Serena Williams in the U.S. Open finals in straight sets. Despite her upset win, Naomi was the target of scorn from the crowd during the closing ceremony, receiving a flood of boos and sending her to tears.
She told the audience:
“I know that everyone was cheering for her and I’m sorry it had to end like this. I just want to say thank you for watching the match. It was always my dream to play Serena in the U.S. Open finals so I’m really glad I was able to do that. Thank you.”
Naomi revealed in a later interview that she felt “a little bit sad” for the way the crowd treated her.
The match became the focus of attention worldwide for Serena’s behavior towards the umpire, who slapped her with several violations.
We estimate that Naomi Osaka’s net worth is $1.44 million (2018).
So how much is $1.44 million really?
$1.44 million can pay for your travel expenses throughout the course of your tennis career. $1.44 million is how much the Williams Sisters receive in endorsement deals in a single year.
