Name: Abilio James Acosta
Born: April 17, 1971
Jim Acosta was born in Washington, D.C. on April 17, 1971. He is the son of a Cuban refugee.
Raised in the state of Virginia, Jim attended Annandale High School, graduating in 1989. He enrolled in James Madison University, earning a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and political science.
Jim was married to Sharon Mobley Stow, a registered nurse, for 24 years. The couple separated in 2017. They have two children: Harley and Peter.
Jim got his start in broadcast journalism when he volunteered for a student-run radio station, WXJM, and worked as a reporter for another local radio station, WSVA. One year after finishing college, Jim obtained employment with WMAL, but later transitioned to television news, working for WTTG-TV as a desk assistant. In 1995, he became a reporter and substitute anchor for WBIR-TV in Knoxville Tennessee.
He then went to Dallas, Chicago, New York, and Atlanta and worked for local news networks.
Jim gained experience at the national level when he was tapped by CBS News, covering the 2004 election, the Iraq War, and Hurricane Katrina. In April 2007, Jim was hired by CNN, covering the 2008 electoral contest, and appeared as an anchor for weekday and weekend programming. His body of work helped climb up the ladder, going from national political correspondent to senior White House correspondent, and then chief White House correspondent.
The CNN host has gained the national spotlight by getting into spats with President Donald Trump and Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. He has been accused of grandstanding and appearing as an activist rather than a journalist. Jim often becomes the center of attention at Trump rallies with the president’s supporters calling him “fake news.” In November 2018, following the midterm elections, the president called him “a rude, terrible person” who “shouldn’t be working for CNN.”
We estimate that Jim Acosta’s net worth is $700,000 (2018).
So how much is $700,000 really?
$700,000 can rent an apartment in the heart of Washington, D.C. $700,000 can also pay for the weekly salary of CNN host Anderson Cooper.
